13. The Michaelmas Lunch, September 27, 2021

On 27 September 2021, the Company held its Michaelmas Lunch at Trinity House. The Master welcomed over 60 Members and guests to the first face to face Lunch since January 2020. The theme was climate action and the speaker was Alderman Sheriff Elect Alison Gowman. Her theme was working with City institutions to acknowledge the pressing need to address climate change and to be prepared to support actions that would lead to reductions in carbon emissions. City Livery Companies have a part to play and Alison had formed a pan-Livery partnership to develop and adopt individual climate action plans in the run up to COP26.

She was pleased to note the significant contribution from Members of our Company, led by Deputy Master Rob Casey, and that our Court had adopted our own Climate Action Plan earlier in the day. Action is everything, and our contributors have been asked to form an implementation group.

I was pleased to see visiting Masters from the Launderers, Chartered Architects, Paviors, Scientific Instrument Makers and Engineers, and Hon. Liveryman Sir Andrew Parmley. ably introduced by Past Master Mike Williamson.

Mike, an impassioned welcome to the visitors

41st Wedding Anniversary with the Conservators

We introduced new Freeman: Dharmesh Joshi and Simon Spooner, and Liveryman Neil Reynolds, and thanked Colin Middlemiss and Tony Parker (former Beadle) for their support to the Company over the years. An unscheduled celebration was the 41st Wedding Anniversary of the Samiullahs, who missed out on their Ruby Anniversary because of lockdown.

I stressed the need for Members to meet safely, and forward the work of the Company, without which the good things that the Company and its charity do, would not happen.

My thanks go to Alison Gowman who found time to join us on the eve of commencing her Schrieval duties, and to Members and guests who came along to reconnect with the Company.
